Blood Pressure Monitoring (BPM) records your blood pressure over a 24-hour period while you move around and go about your regular activities.  You wear it at night too

  • To find out if your high blood pressure readings in the doctors surgery or pharmacy are much higher than they are away from the doctors or pharmacy (called the ‘white coat effect’) this can be caused by stress or nerves.
  • Your doctor can get a clear picture of how your blood pressure changes throughout the day and night by testing it at regular intervals over the course of 24 hours. Your doctor may recommend this test for a variety of reasons:
  • You’ve been diagnosed with high blood pressure, and you or your doctor want to see how lifestyle modifications or medication are working to bring your blood pressure down to normal levels.
  • To see how effectively your medications are working and to ensure that they are keeping your blood pressure under control throughout the day.
  • Check to discover if your blood pressure rises during the night. If this is the case, your medications may need to be changed or adjusted.
  • You have conditions that affect your heart, such as high cholesterol or diabetes.

The Pharmacist will demonstrate how it works before fitting it on your arm. It is to be worn for at least 24 hours. You go about your day as usual.

Following the 24hour period you return the monitor to us and the pharmacist will explain your results and offer lifestyle suggestions to assist you lower your blood pressure or maintain a healthy level.

You will be provided with a detailed report showing the changes in your blood pressure over the 24-hour period. We will give you the report and explain the results and offer lifestyle suggestions to assist you lower or maintain it at a healthy level. This report can also be sent to your Doctor.
