GLA is not naturally produced by the body so many people may find that they need to source it from their diet or supplements. Other sources include blackcurrant seed oil, borage seed oil, and hemp seed oil. The fatty acid is also found in edible hemp seeds, oats and barley. When we take Linoleic acid into our bodies it is metabolised into GLA, which is essential for the production of hormone-like substances called prostaglandins. Linoleic acid contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.
